Australian Flexible Pavement Association – Outstanding Project (Below $10m)
The Wellington Park Pinnacle Car Park project at the summit of kunanyi/Mount Wellington, Hobart, involved installing 540 tonnes of Stone Mastic asphalt to improve the alpine car park, which faces extreme weather fluctuations. Located nearly 1300 metres above sea level, the site experiences snow, icy winds, and attracts many visitors due to its panoramic views. The project required planning around weather conditions and tourist schedules. The goal was to address challenges like skid resistance, temperature resistance, strength, and durability in the harsh alpine environment.
